Feeding my puppy

FEEDING MY PUPPY

We agree with you that your puppy deserves to live their very best life and we can help choose a diet that you can confidently feed your best friend for the rest of their life.

We believe that a natural, fresh diet is best for a healthy, happy puppy. Then as your puppy develops and grows, they will only benefit from the best proteins, nutrients, and a complete and balanced meal plan.
We understand that all of us can be time poor and we are not here to judge. We only want to assist you to give your puppy the best that you can afford and provide quality products for the health and wellbeing of your puppy through all stages of their life.

Why A Natural / Raw Diet?

Raw feeding is often known as a BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) diet. We believe that our best friends will be healthier if they eat foods that they would naturally eat in the wild. Even though we have domesticated our dogs, we haven’t taken away their natural traits. They will still forage and scavenge, if allowed and eat nutrients from a variety of sources. They will naturally prefer offal and meats as a source of vitamins and minerals.

The benefits of a natural diet are that it is free of preservatives, additives, chemicals, and colourings. It is more digestible, higher in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
There are so many benefits to feeding your puppy what they would naturally eat. Your puppy will enjoy their meals and have a more regular bowel function. Their coat will be shinier, and they will enjoy improved energy levels. A natural diet can produce a less fussy eater and reduce sensitivities to skin conditions and allergies.

Transition to Natural

You are probably taking your puppy home at the age of 8 weeks (appropriate age). A puppy is generally able to progress from their mum’s milk to more solid food. A lot of breeders will already be feeding a natural diet before you take your puppy home. It is recommended that a puppy be transitioned to a natural diet as soon as their digestive system can cope. You may get some soft poo happening; however, this will disappear once their little tummy becomes adjusted.
If your puppy is on dry food, start transition slowly then increase gradually over 2 – 3 weeks. Puppies will adapt at their own pace. Be patient and watch their poos. Slow down the transition if necessary. Introduce proteins one at a time. That way you will know if there are any insensitivities to a particular protein. If your puppy has diarrhea for more than 3 days switch back to a food you know agrees with them. If they are lethargic, refuse to eat or show other signs of ill health, consult, and seek advice from your vet.
You can introduce another protein once their tummy has adjusted and then slowly add in further proteins. It’s important to give your puppy a complete and balanced diet to ensure you support their immune system and growing bodies. This is particularly important for larger breed puppies who will have special requirements to support and build their bones as they grow. Too much or too little calcium can cause issues as they grow.
Our experienced staff can provide advice on how to give your growing puppy a balanced and complete meal for all their life stages.

Bones

Always supervise when feeding bones. It is also important to consider the size of any bone you give your puppy. It should be the size for them to chew safely without swallowing pieces that are too big. Watch small breeds or greedy puppies for choking hazards.
Our poultry minces will contain the recommended daily bone content for all life stages. Our red minces are boneless so you may want to feed bones separately. Start by giving chicken necks, then progressively move to turkey necks and lamb bones (depending on the size of your puppy). Chewing bones should only be given twice a week. Cut down the amount of bone given if your puppy becomes constipated.
